I'm planning to install debian on my Overo/FE, it seems to be a nice development platform, but how about setgpio and other gumstix related tools ? And how about GUI (with Chestnut43 and LCD) ? Are they working on debian or only the console ? Any experience ?
You are probably safe. The LCD is exported over the framebuffer and distrobutions like OE use the same userland tools. I don't know what the setgpio does but it can't be that much as there are standard kernel (sys) interfaces to configure, get and set gpio's. If you are not going to build from sources why not simply use a proper OE based rootfs binary image?
