Good morning Mark,
Glad it worked. Thanks but no thanks for the beer =P. I got much work ahead of me today!

Feel free to spam the mailing list with more questions though.

Hi Adam,

If the kernel config turns out that it is by default be in OTG mode, perhaps all you need to do is load up a proper driver like this:
           modprobe g_serial

That was all it took.  How can I send you a virtual beer?

Good morning Mark,

I hope someone can let you know exactly what's happening by looking at your dmesg, but I will tell you what I would try to get that musb working in host mode (rather than client mode).

Not exactly sure which version of Gumstix OE image you got here, but assuming your MMC image was configured to assign the OTG port as client, this wiki article might be helpful: http://wiki.gumstix.org/index.php?title=Category:How_to_-_usb

It says you can set the operation mode of the OTG can be configured easily by changing the MUSB_MODE variable in ${OVEROTOP}/build/conf/local.conf..

You can also try running this command on a live system:
          echo host > /sys/devices/platform/musb_hdrc/mode

If that isn't enough, you should see what the kernel config on the musb OTG is.   You can grab the source code of your kernel's OE recipe to see what the default value is over the weekend.

If the kernel config turns out that it is by default be in OTG mode, perhaps all you need to do is load up a proper driver like this:
           modprobe g_serial

Also let me know where you got the OE recipes to bitbake your image. May be I will try it out this weekend ;)

Hope it helps,

Adam

Hello,

I have an Overo Fire COM and a Palo35 expansion board.  When I boot from the provided OS that came on the NAND, the OTG port works fine (as does HOST).  However, when I boot off an MMC holding a BitBaked build of the omap3-desktop-nand-image target, the OTG port doesn't receive power, and its controller doesn't show under "lsusb".

I'm sure if I dig far enough I can ferret out the solution, but I don't have access to the system in question to experiment over the Labor Day weekend (just discovered this Friday night).  Therefore, while I ply the Google seas, I was hoping someone could just say "Ah-hah, you need to add this package / config line to Foo.bb" :-)

I posted "dmesg" outputs from both the working and non-working OTG boot sequences here...does anyone have a quick solution off the top of their head?

Thanks in advance,

Mark Zieg
