I wasn't using a microSD card.
I found that another guy was having a similar problem.

So i looked at how to create a bootable imcroSD card for overo
http://gumstix.org/create-a-bootable-microsd-card.html
Went with the Linaro
Unfortunately the ubuntu on my laptop doesn't recognize an sd-card
lspci | grep Card
yields nothing. So what do i do?

It could be the Overo isn't finding a boot loader.

Are you using a microSD card or trying to boot from NAND?

If NAND only, then try with a microSD card. The system will try
