What expansion board are you using? I have had some similar trouble with the overo on a Chestnut43. Do you get any error messages? The first few times I had issues with the overo was because the com was not connected well to the expansion board; you should try pulling it off and putting it back on once to make sure it is not something simple like a bad connection.

Subject: [Gumstix-users] gumstix overo unable to connect to modem telit uc864
Hi all, everything I try to connect to the gumstix overo I own seems not to
be working :(
So this time I bought a development kit from telit, which runs up a uc864-E
If I connect the modem to a linux ubuntu 9.04, like the one I have on my
desk, through usb cable
and a standard ftdi chip interface, everything works fine: kernel discover
the 4 ttyUSB* and I am able
to start typing at commands.
If I connect the modem to the gumstix overo, nothing happens: the ftdi
kernel modules are not loaded,
device is not usb discovered.
Could you gimme any suggestions?
Thank you in advance for your time.
