yes, I did it. The module has been loaded and reports problems about interrupts.
Is there a problem with IRQs in 2.6.29?

If you built kernel linux-omap-2.6.29 from the OE remotes/origin/stable/2009
branch,
then you might try : modprobe smsc911x

The kernel config for that branch has the ethernet driver being built as a
module.

beagle@quad:~/oe/openembedded/recipes/linux/linux-omap-2.6.29/overo$ grep
SMSC911X defconfig
CONFIG_SMSC911X=m
