Thanks Alex. The AppleMac is not suitable for Bitbake then, will use Ubuntu instead.

Could install virtual box (free) or vmware fusion (paid) .

Then create a virtual machine (fedora or ubuntu) then install bitbake
and the rest.

Thats what I did at first at work(on a mini mac) until I managed to
scrounge a spare box and get space on our vmware server.

I found that easier than trying to get it running on OSX (10.5/10.6)
