I would use the RS232 console to get started.  USBnet's a little harder to get working out of the box, although not by much.  Using the console is 100%, there's almost no way to screw it up, as long as you remember to use a null-modem cable.  As for the power supply, take a look at the Wiki, it should answer all your questions.
