I have very little experience with networking on Linux.
When I got my WiFistix  I went through a laborious trial and error process
to get it to work with my old 802.11b router. The following is the configuration that finally worked (from /etc/network/interfaces)

auto mwlan0
iface mwlan0 inet static
address 192.168.1.199
netmask 255.255.255.0
pre-up /sbin/iwconfig $IFACE essid any txpower 100mW

I have recently upgraded to a 802.11g router, changed the network name and started using WEP encryption. I had naively hoped the following  would work but it did not.

auto mwlan0
iface mwlan0 inet static
address 192.168.1.199
netmask 255.255.255.0
wireless-essid cumminsWiFi
wireless-key XXXXXXXX
pre-up /sbin/iwconfig $IFACE essid any txpower 100mW

Does anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

My other computers all work with the new router and configuration, as evidenced
by Swiftfor or firefox being able to access the internet. I may not have every thing
set up perfectly as I can not ping the router or the other computers.

Any suggestions gratefully received.
