YOu can just leave teh display driver as it is, and hook up the mostt significant bits of the lcd to the 6 bits of data. This just means that you won't have those lower few bits set to anything meaningful. you might want to tie themlow on the display so that they are driven off all teh way when the lcd display is trying to display black.

You loose a little bit of dynamic range in your colors, is all.
