I believe that if you want your bitbake to use the latest version of a particular program, then the corresponding recipe for that program must be written to download and install this latest version. I imagine that only in a few specialized cases would you need the absoulte latest version of a program, then you should update the recipe yourself, or write yourself a new recipe to get the latest version.

In any case you should update your openembedded repository so that you have the latest version of the bitbake recipes. You can do this by typing:

git pull

in your OE directory.
