I ended up loading the rtc-sa1100 module along with rtc-core, rtc-dev, rtc-proc. In the end I had rtc0 device created in /dev. hwclock can query it and reports the time from the chip, but on restart the time is still reset. We desoldered the 0 ohm resistor and attached the leads for the 3 Volt battery to it. We did continuity test and the pins on the 24 pin connector are the same as the ones where the 0 ohm resistor was connected. What could be the cause for the rtc to reset? When gumstix reboots, is power lost to the board?
