Ahh - OK.
What happens is that binutil runs configure and decides that it can't
find makeinfo (part of texinfo). Unfortunately, it records this
descision, so that even if you install makeinfo, it will still decide
that it's missing.
Since binutils is the first part of building buildroot, the simplest
thing to do is to remove all of the generated files. This will cause
configure to run again. Since makeinfo is installed now, it will
detect it, and things will be able to proceed.
Or, you can "make" with "make -i" like I had to! :-)
