MOSCHIP based and ASIX based ethernet USB adapters seem to work pretty well with anything .37 and up.

Depends. Buying the Tobi is somewhat proven as a way to get functional
ethernet. USB LAN adapters are dependent upon linux driver support and your
ability to get that driver working on your system.
