try "export DISPLAY=localhost:0"

should fix you right up

I have gumstix-x11-image w/GTK+ & matchbox installed, as well as python and pygtk installed (along with a bunch of other dependencies).

I'm testing a basic helloworld python script. Works fine on my build machine, but once I port it over I get the following error upon execution:

$ python
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/ GtkWarning: could not open display
  warnings.warn(str(e), _gtk.Warning)
Segmentation fault

Asked a few questions on a pygtk list and in #gumstix and Googled, some possible answers included

                export DISPLAY=:0

which I ran at the prompt before executing, and I still got the same error. Also tried a variation,

                export DISPLAY=:0.0

                And even "setenv DISPLAY=:0.0"   (but there's no setenv command on my gumstix)

Can anyone possibly point me in the right direction?

Is there an x11 configuration file on gumstix somewhere that I'm possibly supposed to be changing?

I know x11 is working because I get a nice matchbox screen, touch-enabled and everything, upon startup.  Also, I'm able to get a python terminal running and don't get errors when I do basic functions and imports.

In the archives I see export DISPLAY=:0 mentioned once in regards to getting a touchscreen working, but I don't quite know what this command does.

Thanks again,
