Ok I figured out that the GPS is running:
cat /dev/ttyS2
Provides the messages.  however I'm noticing that
$GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58
I take it that I'm just not picking up satalites, but it looks like I have 3 good signals.  I have the gumstix sitting in the tard with a clear view of the sky.

Subject: [Gumstix-users] Starting the GPS

Is there a command to start the GPS? Or does it start automactically upon being powered up?
