GTK provides character display functions that will look
for a character in a requested font, and then go look
in other fonts for a substitute glyph if the character
is not found. This behaviour makes it very tedious to
determine which characters in the gucharmap display are
in the font and which are substitutions. I have to
right-click each character I want to check. Please find
a function that displays the character only if it is in
the font specified.

The current behavior should be kept as an option. It is
extremely useful for locating at least one font that
does have any character I am interested in.

Better still would be a way to display every installed
font containing a particular character.
