Linus, thanks for the direction on this. I looked again and found that it was only failing when __FILE__ was within an include or similar statement such as: include(dirname(__FILE__) . '/bootstrap.inc'); require_once(dirname(__FILE__) . '/init.inc'); I've attached a patch for GuberParserTokenizer.php that fixes the issue and since I didn't know how you'd like to handle the gbdAddUntilNext signature change, I've sent 2 versions of the patch. cleanSigMod.diff - adds $gbdThisScript as the first parameter in gbdAddUntilNext so it's like the gbdAddBlock signature quickSigMod.diff - adds $gbdThisScript as an optional third parameter in gbdAddUntilNext Thanks, Aaron |

Hello! In the tokenizer parser, __FILE__ is handeled a bit differently, it checks for the T_FILE token while parsing and then replacing it during the parsing phase. I guess in some cases it wont stumble on that token for some reason.. in what way were you using __FILE__? The problem with the __FILE__ replacement thats done in pre42 is that it might replace occurances in strings so I'd rather not use it.. Of course, if there is no other way... cheers /Linus On Saturday 21 May 2005 16.15, Aaron McDonald wrote: > I already posted this on the IRC channel but just to be sure someone sees > it, here it is again. > > I was having a problem debugging php code that used the __FILE__ variable. > I noticed that GubedParserPre42.php replaces all occurrences of __FILE__ > and since I'm using php 4.3.9, I added the same replacement code to > GubedParserTokenizer.php and it seems to have fixed the problem. Aaron, This was very helpful, I am much closer, but two issues remain. I used your idea of a soft-link. Since I have several subdirectories under my public_html, each with a seperate project, in each of these directories I created a soft-link: StartSession.php -> /usr/local/gubed/ServerScripts/StartSession.php Then I was able to setup a reference: href="StartSession.php?gbdScript=test.php" and that worked! Very nice. The two issues: 1) If there are multiple users, each will be running their debugger on their own server/port. The debug server and port are read from the single file localsettings.php in the ServerScripts directory. I tried adding ?gbdDebugServer=mysystem to the reference, but it didn't work. Looks like GubedGlobals.php could be modified to look first in the current directory for localsettings.php and/or take the debug server/port as an option. 2) When references are made to other scripts, from the script being debugged, StartSession.php inserts itself on the command line so that debugging can continue. This is a good thing, but it prepends a leading /, so that for instance my href=index.php becomes StartSession.php?gbdScript=/index.php and fails. If the leading / is removed, it works. I'm wondering of the StartSession.php script can be modified to better decide if a leading / is required and leave it out if an absolute path wasn't used to start with. Hey Brett, I have Gubed CVS installed at /usr/local/src/Gubed-CVS. I then created a Gubed softlink from /user_home_dir/public_html/ to /usr/local/src/Gubed-CVS. I invoke StartSession.php with ~user/path_to_script and everything seems to work fine. Let me know if a similar setup works for you as this seems like an acceptable setup for a multiuser environment. All, I am working on a Fedora FC3 system running the latest patches. I am working in my home directory, so that I access files in ~home/public_html via http://localhost/~home. I was able to get Gubed working by creating a soft-link under the Gubed scripts directory back to ~home/public_html. I am looking for a more workable long-term solution, which as far as I can tell, might require changes to StartSession.php. I'd like to see a general enhancement or methodology, as it would be great to install Gubed once and allow all developers to utilize the environment. In my index.php, I've created two hyper-links to my target script, so that I can start it with and without Gubed: <a href="test.php">Test Normal</a> <a href="/gubed/StartSession.php?gbdScript=/gubed/home/subdir/test.php">Test Gubed</a> What I'd really like to do in the second case is more like: <a href="/gubed/StartSession.php?gbdScript=~home/subdir/test.php">Test Gubed</a> but doesn't work as it looks like StartSession.php attempts to prepend the script with an absolute path. Even better would be something like: <a href="/gubed/StartSession.php?gbdScript=test.php">Test Gubed</a> as there is a subtle issue here that requires specifying a full path, as there is no memory as to the current working directory. Normally scripts chain to each other from the same path, which I think might be doable if StartSession.php didn't force the issue. Any advise or simplified methodology greatly appreciated. I already posted this on the IRC channel but just to be sure someone sees it, here it is again. I was having a problem debugging php code that used the __FILE__ variable. I noticed that GubedParserPre42.php replaces all occurrences of __FILE__ and since I'm using php 4.3.9, I added the same replacement code to GubedParserTokenizer.php and it seems to have fixed the problem. In function gbdParseCode, have the preg_replace call also replace "/\_\_FILE\_\_/" with "'".realpath($gbdThisScript)."'" Thanks, Aaron McDonald |

Hello! I read your tutorial with great joy, thanks a lot! Of course, I linked to you on the Gubed site. FYI a new version of Gubed is due in a few days, unfortunately, it'll be a while before Quanta supports it. cheers! /Linus On Friday 22 April 2005 16.23, Ewald Kicker wrote: > Hi! > > I created a tutorial on how to use Gubed with Quanta Plus. > It is aimed at beginners. > > http://www.very-clever.com/quanta-gubed-debugging.php > > :-) > > ------------------------------------------------------- > SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide > Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. > Discover which products truly live up to the hype. Hi! In that version of Gubed, there's a file called 'nodebug.txt'. In this file, you can enter patterns for filenames that shouldnt be debugged by gubed. (In later versions this is moved to localconfig.php, but you cant use later versions with quanta yet). Furthermore, make sure you know the difference between "leap" and "run" - it's common that people use run rather than leap (and in later versions they're renamed because of this). Most likely you want to use 'leap' if you're not already. Also, Gubed should handle redirects. It does in my projects that uses them. Of course, that's only true for files being debugged. /Linus Lucas van Staden wrote: >Hi. > >Just installed Gubed, and like what I see. > >I am using Quanta+ 3.4 as well as the plugin for Firefox. >All is going quite well, but I am trying to trace a fairly large >website's php execution to find why a certain variable is being set to >null. > >What I am trying to do basically is to get Gubed to run the code until >the homepage is displayed, then set a watch on a session variable, and >then monotor what happens to this variable when I click on links on the >home page (ie, logging in). > >The site makes use of many PEAR classes, so when running through the >code, Gubed jumps into every Pear class, and eventually Firefox (well >actually apache/php) sends a timeout. Hi. Just installed Gubed, and like what I see. I am using Quanta+ 3.4 as well as the plugin for Firefox. All is going quite well, but I am trying to trace a fairly large website's php execution to find why a certain variable is being set to null. What I am trying to do basically is to get Gubed to run the code until the homepage is displayed, then set a watch on a session variable, and then monotor what happens to this variable when I click on links on the home page (ie, logging in). The site makes use of many PEAR classes, so when running through the code, Gubed jumps into every Pear class, and eventually Firefox (well actually apache/php) sends a timeout. Can I set Gubed not to trace through certain php scripts ? (maybe as a wishlist a function where you can eneter the name of a script, like DB.php, and if a require/include calls for the said script, then Gubed will just run it, and not trace into it....? The list should be able to hold multipile names, as in DB.php,PHPLIB.php,PEAR.php). Maybe this is already possible in some way, but I cannot seem to find it. The site also makes use of header page redirects depending on actions taken from the user. Can Gubed handle this sort of thing ? Maybe I am just too spoilt by Delphi's debuging :) Any suggestions would be appreciated.... Lucas |

Hello For those of you interested, there is an experimental plugin for firefox to ease Gubed interaction. Get it from http://www.mozmarks.com/gubed/ Im currently working on getting 0.1.4 ready and the plugin will most likely be included in the package. Let me know of any problems, etc etc /Linus |

Hello! I've just added a sourceforge list where I will announce new versions before they released to the public. So anyone interested in testing and giving feedback on packages before they are released, please join! (If you're just interested in being informed about new versions, you can subscribe to the appropriate file package instead!) /Linus |

Argh! I ran ldconfig, but the .so file is not listed. No problem - I just put the path in LD_LIBRARY_PATH. At least I thought I had. Turns out I put in the wrong path. Once I fixed that, everything worked. Hmmm, imagine that. Did you do a ldconfig after you installed wx? And is /usr/local/lib in your /etc/ld.so.conf file? Those are the two things i can think of on the top of my head... If it doesent work, please start the client like this (in a term) strace 2>&1 src/gbdwxGubed | grep libwx and send me the output /linus On Thursday 21 October 2004 18.03, todd runstein wrote: > I've installed wxWidgets (libwx_gtk-2.4.so is in > /usr/local/lib) and Gubed. I've installed wxWidgets (libwx_gtk-2.4.so is in /usr/local/lib) and Gubed. Configure ran without errors (except for not finding stc). When I run src/gbdwxGubed, I recieve: src/gbdwxGubed: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk-2.4.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Any ideas? Yep.. It was the lower version numbers... automake 1.5.x and libtoolise has a similar version number. Freebsd ports have bumped up automake ot 1.9.x so I will be retrying tonight :-) George On Fri, 15 Oct 2004 07:07:24 +0200 Linus McCabe <Li...@mc...> wrote: > > Hello! > > Can you please check your versions of automake and libtoolize and let me know > what you have: > $ automake --version > $ libtoolize --version > > I think you need libtoolize of at least 1.7 (I'm using 1.9), so if you have a > lower version, please try and upgrade and see if that helps. > > thanks for the report, and please let me know if you get it to work or if the > above don't help! > > /Linus > > On Friday 15 October 2004 04.17, George Patterson wrote: > > Hi All, > > > > > > I downloaded and started building Gubed on a FreeBSD 5.3.1 system. > > > > The autogen.sh seems to have gone okay > > |

Hello! Can you please check your versions of automake and libtoolize and let me know what you have: $ automake --version $ libtoolize --version I think you need libtoolize of at least 1.7 (I'm using 1.9), so if you have a lower version, please try and upgrade and see if that helps. thanks for the report, and please let me know if you get it to work or if the above don't help! /Linus On Friday 15 October 2004 04.17, George Patterson wrote: > Hi All, > > > I downloaded and started building Gubed on a FreeBSD 5.3.1 system. > > The autogen.sh seems to have gone okay > > # ./autogen.sh > configure.in:16: warning: do not use m4_patsubst: use patsubst or > m4_bpatsubst aclocal.m4:66: AM_CONFIG_HEADER is expanded from... > configure.in:16: the top level > configure.in:97: warning: do not use m4_regexp: use regexp or m4_bregexp > aclocal.m4:79: _AM_DIRNAME is expanded from... > configure.in:97: the top level > > The configure stage bombs out with autoconf (??) complaining that it is not > able to find ./ltconfig. > > # ./configure > checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c > checking whether build environment is sane... yes > checking for gawk... no > checking for mawk... no > checking for nawk... nawk > checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes > checking build system type... i386-unknown-freebsd5.2.1 > checking host system type... i386-unknown-freebsd5.2.1 > checking for ranlib... ranlib > checking for style of include used by make... Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |
