What do you plan on using another file format for? If it's for VHDL sim, I'd say go with GHW however Tristan mentioned to me a while back that he was thinking of coming up with another format that would address some shortcomings in GHW. The only writer he has is written in Ada, if I remember correctly. If what you need is for Verilog sim, use FST as it's the most scalable for large traces/designs.
