Current short-cut key to make a new tab is "ctrl+n"
which makes a cursor down in emacs and shows next
command in bash, and "doing-something" in so many programs.
How about changing this short-cut key?
"ctrl+shift+t" in gnome-terminal or "ctrl+t" in firefox
would be possible candidates.

The short-cut keys should be configurable in the .gtkterm2rc
    configfile.
