Christophe, I actually have with jnigpod and intending to with libgpod bypassing the use of libipoddevice altogether. With jnigpod I didnt want to depend on it for such a small library (only an interface lib after all) so I depended on hal and dbus directly and used libipoddevice as a template for writing my own function.
