Hi, I retried to use my new (and still unused) ipod with gtkpod after upgrading my linux tu Ubuntu 10.04 (shipping with gtkpod 0.99.14 and libgpod 0.7.2). I observe the same bug as before (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=519273&aid=2970260&group_id=67873): when adding tracks to the ipod, the artwork of added tracks is not visible (neither in gtkpod nor in the ipod). Is there a new version to try ? If it's not packaged for ubuntu, is it reasonnably easy to compile (I mean, not too many dependencies which will screw up my install ?). Thanks, Emmanuel |

Well, the latest comment I added to this bug report still stands, I'm not sure what additional information you need about it at this point :) Cheers, Christophe |

But I'm a bit confused. Is gtkpod statically linked ? I ask because on my system, I have installed libgpod-common (0.7.93-0ubuntu1) libgpod4 (0.7.93-0ubuntu1) and gtkpod (0.99.14-2ubuntu4) But in gtkpod, the "About" menu says: gtkpod 0.99.14 (using libgpod 0.7.2) I checked my filesystems and don't have any libgpod 0.7.2 installed elsewhere. Maybe an Ubutu pakaging bug ? Emmanuel > Cheers, > > Christophe > |

It's a value that is set at compile time, so if gtkpod hasn't been rebuild since the 0.7.93 upload, gtkpod will still show 0.7.2 if it was built against that. I was bitten by that recently as well ;) I gather you're still seeing the bug you describe with libgpod 0.7.93? Christophe |

I was bitten by that recently as well ;) OK. So I'm in fact using libgpod 0.7.93, and confirm the bug. (and I volunteer to make more tests if needed) Emmanuel |

After that iTunes displays: Capacity: 148.87Gb Software version 2.0.4 Format: Macintosh 2- With iTunes, put a single track on your ipod (as some said that one should use the ipod with iTunes before using Linux, I don't know if it's still true); Check that this track as embedded picture (cover art) and thait it's correctly displayed in iTunes and afterthat on the iPod (eg in cover flow). 3- Using Disk Utility on the mac, disable HFS+ journaling (File Menu while pressing option key), as Linux does not handle journalized HFS+. [Here I dumped the complete ipod disk (tar cfz ...) on ipod2-init.tgz, available on http://www.mediafire.com/file/hj0yi0ynzun/ipod2-init.tgz ] 4- Connect the ipod to the linux machine and launch gtkpod gtkpod asks "Please select your ipod model". I enter "160Gb Classic Silver" (xC293) and get a warning "Extended info will not be used" (???) and "Erroro reading iPod Photo database" (seems logic, as I didn't use any photo application yet). The ipod is seen in gtkpod and cover art of the track added on iTunes is displayed. 5- Add a track from the local library to the ipod. Although the cover art of this file is visible in gtkpod's local library, it's not in gtkpod's ipod copy. 6- Save and eject the ipod: the 2 tracks are presents, the new one without cover art. [I also dumped the ipod disk with tar at this point, http://www.mediafire.com/file/dmxyezrnyzv/ipod2-aftergtkpod.tgz ] On the ipod, the first track still has its covert art, but not the new one. Hope this helps Emmanuel > > Christophe > |

Ah I thought some artwork was corrupted in the process, it's just that some artwork is missing? Maybe gtkpod doesn't transfer artwork automatically and you have to explicitly transfer it, I don't know gtkpod well enough to be able to answer. Christophe |
