If you could integrate some freedb cddb lookup, gtkpod
would be even a nicer app for managing both the ipod
and local music files.
Being able to edit id3 tags is already a nice feature
by itself, but if there are some tracks who are badly
or not at all tagged, some freedb lookup would be a
great help. (maybe there's already some library aroung,
cf. easytag, tagtool)

Hi,
thanks for writing. I appreciate your input.
cddb is a lookup for complete CDs. You cannot look up single
tracks with it.
cddb lookup is great when encoding a CD (with grip, for
example), but not when editing single tracks (easytag,
gtkpod). It's technically not possible.
That's why I will close this tracker item. Don't hesitate to
post a new (different!) request, though.

Well, I understand that you can't look up single tracks, you
can however apply cddb information to single tracks (cf.
easytag).
If one knows where his tracks are from (for example one has
a soundtrack album ), where the movie's/compilation's name
is entered as artist and one would like to change them to
the original artists, such selective application would be
useful, wouldn't it?
To underline how easytag works: You would select a specific
number of tracks, do a manual cddb lookup, and apply only
selected information to the previously selected tracks.

OK, I guess I was working under some wrong assumptions.
I'll leave it as an open item in the tracker here and will
eventually advertise it under "help wanted" for someone to
pick up.
Cheers,
JCS.

If you would want to do a single track at a time, perhaps
musicbrainz.org might be more along the lines of what you
would want.
This uses an acoustic fingerprint to look up the song and
gets information from a community driven database.
