I always do this with code. I calculate simple codes in my head and use gimp more more complex ones. When I use RGB (0-255), red would be (255,0,0), blue (0,0,255), fucsia (255, 0, 255), purple (128, 0, 255), etc. As far as I know there's no module in gtk that defines colours and colour combinations, except for a cairo module which defines basic colours, but I'm not sure you can use those to change the colour of a widget. If you google for "color codes" you'll find color paletes and their hex color code correspondences. You'll just have to split the hex in RGB components (they are usually given as #RRGGBB).
