If yes, what do you mean by tiff g4? Is that some variant?

Looking at http://www.libtiff.org/ it seems fairly complete and the
mailing list archives do mention G4 support. However, it might be
that the Windows version of libtiff has the specific support for that
format disabled. It might also be that gdk-pixbuf doesn't recognize
your file as TIFF, although that seems to be rather unlikely. You
could check if there are any known issues with your libtiff and maybe
