Yes, the libary has been stripped and I have used size optimization -Os for ARM. I guess 150 KB was for x86, I might not get the same reduction with gcc on ARM. Anyhow, I will try version 0.10.
In parallel I am undertaking glib (version 2.8.5) footprint reduction.  I am getting 630 KB, does it sound good ? Any suggestion ?

Have you stripped all symbols ? Have you compiled with optimization for
size over speed ?

Have you tried the 0.10 version ? You should definately not be using the
0.8 version.
