why don't package a .desktop file with the sources, so the program can be easy seen by the menus?

I have a feeling that if one can manage to compile GSim from sources, creating a .desktop file is a trivial thing. Moreover it's depends on the installation config - I think it's easier to create a .desktop file from scratch. One can use an icon 'gsim.psg' from the 'images' directory.
