Hello to all of my loyal GPassword Manager users, new Gryptonite users, and also those who are discovering my software for the first time. It has been a long time since my last release of GPassword Manager, and I wanted to assure you that it's not dead! I've been busy toiling away on the new version, Gryptonite, which will sport an improved feature set including better encryption, security, reliability, performance and it will look and feel a lot better. I don't have a date yet on the release, but most of the heavy lifting is done and I'm just finishing up the last few features.
The reason I changed the name, rather than just increment the version number, is that this is basically a full rewrite of the application. I have learned a lot about encryption and software in general since I started, and looking back through my old code I realized how much better I could have done. So I decided to basically throw the whole thing out and start from scratch. I kept the same basic behavior the same, but under the covers it's a lot slicker and easier to work with. Just one example is that now all the data access is done on background threads, so the interface is much snappier, even when encrypting and storing huge files.
With such a major update comes a new file format to support all the new features. You can update your existing GPassword Manager files with Gryptonite simply by opening it. The application will guide you through the one-way upgrade process.
Thanks again to all my fans and software users, and those who donate (time and money) to open-source efforts. You haven't long to wait for the new awesome version!
