#15 grip (cdparanoia) doesn't work

I'm running Linux 2.4.18 (SuSE 8.0)

I've compiled and installed Grip 3.03, but I cannot get
the embedded cdparanoia to work. I can specify that it
uses cdparanoia and that works, so I can't imagine this
is a permissions problem (r/w permission is set on sg0
and sg1). This isn't such a big deal, but I'd like to
use the "Auto gain adjustment" feature and I'd like to
know what kind of problems (if any) it is encountering.
I have two drives installed, both work with cdparanoia
(III 9.8), though I do have to set the "Delay before
ripping" option for one of my drives. In verbose mode
Grip reports "Unable to open cdrom drive".

Any ideas?
