Hugh, check a couple of things. Try "ls -l /dev/cdrom" and see if the cdrom drive is actually a soft link to another device as on my machine: ls -l /dev/cdrom lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2009-09-07 18:09 /dev/cdrom -> sr0 One suspects that on you system /dev/cdrom is pointing at the wrong device. If so and you know which device is the sata drive make yourself super user and issue the commands: rm /dev/cdrom ln -s /dev/whatever-your_sata_is /dev/cdrom J.
