It would be really nice if Musicbrainz
(www.musicbrainz.org) could be used as an alternative
to the CDDB/FreeDB lookups. There is a linux client
library available from the main site, and the mailing
list is fairly active.

I'd also like to see musicbrainz support.

The client library can be found here:

    http://www.musicbrainz.org/products/client/download.html

Also, at least Redhat and Debian include have the libraries
    available.

This would be very helpful, as MusicBrainz is generally what
I rely on to tag my files after I've ripped them. I
generally use amaroK for this purpose, but if Grip could do
it natively, I wouldn't have to bother.

    Hi Johnny,

While using Grip to digitize my Jazz collection, I find that CD's that are a collection of 20 or more songs (especially 24) seem to fail the lookup function, both in FreeDB and Musicbrainz. I get some really strange entries with the lookup, and when the CD has 24 or more songs I can never seem to get a correct match. I've tried with just musicBrainz as well as just FreeDB, but the lookups always seem to fail with a large number of songs in the CD. Maybe this is due to some defect in the algorithm when the number of songs is large, I don't really know.

Would a MusicBrainz style of TOC lookup cure this lookup problem ? I have a four foot stack of CD's that have to be manually entered because of lookup failure.

I know you are probably a very busy person, so consider this a wish list item if you please. Many thanks for bringing Grip back to life, I find it the bast and easiest to work with for digitizing my collection.

    Bruce

      Hi MB.
This belongs in a separate bug repport.

Any update on this? FreeDB is shutting down March 31st, 2020.
