I am having pretty much the same problem regardless if there is a disk in any optical drive. I've seen this with both Fedora 8 32-bit and 64-bit. Needless to say I am also running Fedora 8, and trying to rebuild the src RPM results in dependency hell (what is lighttp, anyway? And why would it fail when I try to build it to satisfy this dependency of the RPM?) I built and installed 3.3.1 from source and still no dice, here's the bug report generated by BugBuddy when Grip crahses:

The program is running. Quit anyway (and detach it)? (y or n) [answered Y; input not from terminal]

For what it worth it seems that there is a problem with Fedora and Grip in terms of LOCALE support. If you launch Grip from command line with the LANG=C prefix, it opens. I just came from banging my head to the wall at bugzilla (bug # https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=456721\) where Adrian Reber was kind enough to suggest this approach. Now what might be wrong with Fedora that is interfering with grip in regards to the language, that'd be another matter.

Apparently this bug is due to some .po internationalization files not being in full UTF-8 format BEFORE they're compiled to .gmo files. So RFE, convert all .po files to UTF-8 prior release ;-)
