Hi, Dear all: I am working on the map from simulated grid by GridSim into real grid. Considering the mechanism of describng CPU(ProcessElement) capability in GridSim is MIPS, I am wondering is there any exchanging method from MIPS to ClockSpeed(MHz), which is being used by real world, e.g. JSDL. Thanks a lot! regards ye |

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi good evening, Is there anybody in the list working on GridLet scheduling for GridSim at the moment? I want to simulate the submission of DataGridLets but it would be fine to decide the resource to use using some scheduling policies or something. In the examples I can only see the gridlet submission using the resources random. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi good afternoon, Looking the code of DataGridLet class, I've seen that constructors require two arguments which are: long gridletFileSize long gridletOutputSize Reading the javadoc, I guess that first one stands for the filesize of the executing program file (the job/gridlet specification) But I don't really understand what is the second parameter, because documentation defines the argument as the "the file size (in byte) of the GridLet AFTER finish executing by a GridResource". I thought it should be the filesize of the output files (some kind of result) obtained by executing the GridLet, but the definition seems to say something else. Could anybody clarify this issue? I looked at the code and found out that the file is only added to the storage but it is not registered as a replica(receiveFileDelivery()). You could modify the code to do that and that should work for you. Yes, but the DataGridResource would fetch them as it was reading them remotely. It won't create a local replica of these files. I think that I'll have to implement this feature by myself. The idea is that whenever a file is fetched remotely, a local replica of such a file is kept once it is read. Hai, I have one doubt in Grid resource initialization. instead of spliting resources as machines and processing elements, i need to specify a resource with its processing speed and its processing capacity without to specify machine and PE characteristics individually.is it possible? if so, please reply.thank you. regards gomathi |

Am I missing anything? As far as I know, you can trigger third-party replication by using DataGridlets. You can pack files in DataGridlet using addRequiredFiles() call and the DataGridResource (SimpleReplicaManager.receiveDataGridlet()) will automatically fetch them from the RC if those files are not at the resource. Hope this helps Cheers Srikumar. > > Thank you very much, > > Jonathan > > > > > - -- > - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- > Jonathan Martí Fraiz > Storage Systems Research Group - Computer Sciences Department > Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación > www : http://www.bsc.es/StorageSystems > email : jonathan(dot)marti(at)bsc(dot)es > phone : (0034) 934054281 > - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- > Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) > Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org > > iEYEARECAAYFAkk+sDUACgkQ4cH1a6R2mCuuXQCgsWeJV8XbbxjRHHyC8CdZG4fk > DskAoLGZQNspolBRwVHivVKeRmeNUbXu > =w5Tm > -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > SF.Net email is Sponsored by MIX09, March 18-20, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada. > The future of the web can't happen without you. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I am using the datagrid package and I have a doubt. When a DataGridUser (or a DataGridResource) wants to replicate a file, it first gets it from wherever it is, and then replicates it to wherever the DataGridUser/DataGridResource wants. But, this operation implies the movement of the file twice. 1. importing the file where the action is originated ( File f <- getFile) - --- then a replica is done at the beginning of the replicateFile method using f as a master replica 2. exporting the replica to wherever we want to replicate it (the real replication) - From my point of view, this does not make sense if the resource where the action is originated is not interested in such a file and it only wants to replicate it from one site to another (so just a data movement among the source and target should be done). Or even if we want to create a local replica, datagrid package is making us to get the file first and replicate it straight afterwards (which implies that file data is moved twice locally). Does anybody have an explanation? Am I missing anything? Thank you very much, Jonathan - -- - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Jonathan Martí Fraiz Storage Systems Research Group - Computer Sciences Department Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación www : http://www.bsc.es/StorageSystems email : jonathan(dot)marti(at)bsc(dot)es phone : (0034) 934054281 - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iEYEARECAAYFAkk+sDUACgkQ4cH1a6R2mCuuXQCgsWeJV8XbbxjRHHyC8CdZG4fk DskAoLGZQNspolBRwVHivVKeRmeNUbXu =w5Tm -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Hi, Dear all: Thanks a lot to Dr. Rajiv-Ranjan and Marcos Dias de Assuncao for very helpful answer. In this case, does it mean that if there is no events existing in such future queue, the gridsim clock will stop ticking, then the simulation will halt. In this case, If my object inherited from gridsim wanna call an external services(RMI to another JVM, or remote Database, or something else) for some result, and it will access the result after certain period of time proactively. Instead of "super.gridSimHold(100)", I should utilize "java.lang.object.wait(timeout)". Furthermore, if there are no other events happening during this "waiting" period, the gridsim clock won't change(even the object wait for a long time to fetch the result back). BTW, if the future queue is empty, the simulation will still keep running until some gridsim object calls "StopGridSimulation", right? The time unit used for simulation in GridSim is the second. So, if a job takes 60 seconds in the 'real world' to be executed, when simulated in GridSim it should run for 60 time units. Sim_system maintains two event queues: the future event queue and the deferred queue. Sum_system has a loop that keeps iterating the future event queue while it is not empty. If you start the simulation and you have one event in the future event queue for time unit 10, then Sim_system will retrieve this event from the future event queue, set the clock to 10, put the event in the deferred event queue and wake up entities to handle events. If you have 15 events scheduled for time 10, Sim_system will remove all of them from future event queue and put them in the deferred event queue. After all entities handle the events, Sim_system's loop will retrieve the next event. If the next event is for time 50, then the same process will be repeated and the simulation clock will be set to 50. This is repeated until the future event queue is empty. This process is common in discrete event simulators. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi good morning, I am working on the DataGrid package, specifically, I am trying to add some new functionalities to the DataGridResource class in order to perform some replica management in a more dynamic fashion. Basically, I would like to do things like: once a DataGridUser A asks for a file to a certain DataGridResource Z, Z performs a file access pattern exploitation that predicts some future file accesses and replicates the corresponding files to its corresponding ReplicaManager. But I'm encountering a problem that I can't resolve: the simulation ends before these extra operations in the DataGridResource finish. GridSim seems to only permit DataGridUsers to perform such get/replicate operations, so that, although the Z DataGridResource has not finished yet, the entities are terminated and the simulator becomes stalled. Any suggestions/ideas? Hi... My name is Gilberto. I'm trying understand, how the clock of the gridsim work, but i don't understand very well.. Could you explain how gridsim clock is work and how the clock of the gridsim is increased? One doubt, for example: what's happen when: an entity 'X' is started and send an event for itself at 3600 seconds. After in other moment, an entity 'A' send an event for entity 'B' at 320 second. You can get a list of resources from GIS entity, and have a loop that submits the message to all available resources. anthony On Wed, 19 Nov 2008, Azin Moallem wrote: > Hi, > > I am trying to simulate an scheduler with GridSim. > Is there any way to send a broadcast message to all the resources > available in the Grid ? Hi, I am trying to simulate an scheduler with GridSim. Is there any way to send a broadcast message to all the resources available in the Grid ? Similar to a broadcast message in a peer-to-peer network. Regards, Azin |

Good afternoon to all, I am needing to do simulations to validate a model P2P with management reputation. My network P2P follows the model of Gnutella 0.4. Could GridSim be used for accomplishment of this simulation? Excuse my english. Thank you. Hi all, sorry in advance if my English isn't very good, not so skilled in writing. I'm working on gridsim to simulate a scheduling algorithm. Is there anyone could help me solve some questions arise during the toolkit use? 1. I'm extending the AllocPolicy class. I wonder if can be a race condition between a call to gridletSubmit (made by the GridResource thread) and an internal event scheduled for gridlet completion that is caught by the body in the AllocPolicy thread or the two events are synchronized in some way. In both cases subsequent call to the same methods are made. Trying to answer this question i took a look on simjava code. It seems that in the rare case of the two event with exact same time in the future queue could be a race condition,am I mistaken about this? This leads me to another question. Two event with exact same time seem very rare, this leads simjava to weak up one thread per clock tick, am I mistaken again? 2. After the simulation end (calls to shutdownUserEntity & terminateIOEntities) can I call init again and start another simulation or I have to reset some data structures or restart jvm? Thanks in advance Regards Giancarlo |

Hello, You are using the java 1.5 compiler which is throwing those warnings as the data structures used within Gridsim are unparameterized (non-generic). You can safely ignore the warnings and continue execution. cheers On Tue, Oct 7, 2008 at 12:33 AM, gomathi babu <gom...@gm...> wrote: > hai, > when i try to compile examples in gridsim package, i got the following > warning messages. what mistake have i done? please reply me. > > C:\gridsim4.1\examples\Example02>javac -classpath > c:\gridsim4.1\jars\gridsim.jar > ;. Hi Gomathi, It looks like you have not made any mistake. You are probably compiling GridSim with Java 1.5 or 1.6. GridSim has some code that is Java 1.4 compliant. For example, GridletList extends LinkedList and not LinkedList<Gridlet>. So, you will probably get these warnings if you compile the examples using Java 1.5 because they are considered unsafe. However, Java 1.5 will compile the code, despite the warnings.
