    Good Day,

I am currently working on a project regarding Smart Grids, and one of the main objectives is determining a communication technology(e.g ZigBee, Cellular Network, Wireless Mesh etc) to use on a chosen location, achieving the best efficiency possible.
I'd like to know if GridLab-D can be used to model this kind of environment.

    Thanks in advance,
    Guilherme Rolim

    Guilherme,

Very, very roughly, but not in production.

In the 'trunk' version (i.e., experimental), there is a 'comm' module that allows you to simulate latency and dropped information but only from a very high level.

In a separate project, we have folks working on integrating ns-3 with GridLAB-D to provide a much more detailed simulation of the communication systems. I know ns-3 supports Cell and Wireless, but I'm not sure about ZigBee. Unfortunately, this probably won't be available to the public for at least 1 year.
