Category: atrinik editor Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Alex Tokar (atokar) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Multi-part objects crossing map boundaries Initial Comment: As of r4546 the server is able to handle multi-part objects anywhere (whether they are inserted on the map from a creator's inventory, loaded at map-init time and inserted on the map, spawned from a spawn point, created as an effect, etc). If tail part of a multi-part object crosses map boundaries, it is properly handled, and put onto the appropriate tiled map. If there isn't one, an error is raised in the server log. Thus, it would be nice if Gridarta allowed you to insert multi-part objects anywhere on the map, even if parts of it cross map boundaries and you can't select that part (which is okay, since it is not possible to modify tail attributes anyway). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=841185&aid=3426415&group_id=166996 |

Right now you have to click on the stack of objects, then click on the individual object you want to move (if it's not already on top of the stack..) and then scroll way over to the side of the client and click on the arrows to adjust it down 1 level or move it all the way down to the bottom of the stack. It would be convenient to have either a hot key short cut to move that object down X layers in the stack. Or, a way to (re)set one of the mouse button to move the clicked object down or up X layers in the stack. (The left mouse button would not be a good one to use, how else would you initially select the stack of objects?) ;-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=841185&aid=3422837&group_id=166996 |

Put a 'long table' (or a 'large table'), width 2 squares. Put an item on each square, set 'no_pick 1' on them. When reloading the map, or using undo, the items go under the table. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Andreas Kirschbaum (akirschbaum) Date: 2011-07-08 17:23 Message: Partly fixed in r8935. Now Gridarta does not anymore move multi-square objects to top when loading map files. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Andreas Kirschbaum (akirschbaum) Date: 2007-06-29 23:25 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=707817 Originator: NO This behavior actually is an editor feature: the editor moves all multi-part objects on top of single-part objects. (Not doing so when inserting it at edit time but only at map loading/undo/redo time probably is a bug, though.) The reason for this behavior probably was: at some past time the only multi-part objects probably were monsters. The server moves monsters on top of other objects when the monster moves. I think the editor moves multi-part objects to top to simulate this behavior. Today this assumption is not true anymore since many multi-part objects are immobile/non-monsters. Therefore this behavior probably is not correct anymore. To fix this issue: In map files only the head parts of multi-part objects are saved. Therefore the z-order of tail parts cannot be specified in map files (or by the editor). I did some quick tests with a current server to find out how it (re-)orders multi-part objects: - It seems that the server puts (automatically generated) tail-parts *below* all existing objects when loading a map. - For some reason the server seems to reorder objects; this is somehow based on the "no_pick" flag. See the attached map "xxx": the left chocolate on the bottom left table should be *below* the table according to the map file but the server displays it *on top* of the table. The top left table uses the same objects and the same ordering in the map file, except that the chocolate has "no_pick 1" set. This time the server displays the chocolate correctly below the table. That said: a) What is the correct behavior when loading multi-part objects from a map file? I.e., is the server correct in that it inserts the tail parts *below* all existing objects? And is this always the case, or depends it on some object attributes? b) Why does the no_pick attribute matter for z-ordering? How should the editor behave? c) Are there more attributes and/or rules that matter for z-ordering?
