I used the menu-tool "Comment Region" to comment out a pretty large portion of code, inside which there were also some multi-line comments. The result is the following:
<o>
..
Syntax error in command line

Error executing script: halting
> # /*

</o>

That brings also to a complete gretl's loss of control (No other commands are accepted successfully).

You can test this situation with this simple script.

<i>
nulldata 100

# /*

</i>

    "I used the menu-tool "Comment Region" to comment out a pretty
    large portion of code, inside which there were also some multi-
    line comments." This is not going to work. I've revised the
    backend for the comment/uncomment popup menu items so they
    don't appear if the selection contains C-style comments.

    I've also committed to CVS a fix for the case where command
    execution gets hung up due to a syntax error in commenting.
    (With the old code, a workaround for the situation you
    describe is to close the unterminated C-style comment with
    "*/".)
