Greenshot is phoning home quite frequently, we keep seeing it on our WSA regularly going to: http://getgreenshot.org/project-feed with internet security issues these days I think an explanation is required.. I dont recall allowing any kind of feedback reporting..

If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
I can understand your concerns.
It's an update check, and it will only GET information.
You can turn it off in the settings, which is more than okay for us as it only causes load on our system... it doesn't add anything for us, it is just a convenience for you.
Once again thank you! Its hard to get open source apps approved for corporate use so thats why i asked. Our engineers and technicians really love greenshot!

If you still have doubts, Greenshot is open source and EVERY single line of code is visible here:

Robin, thank you for your response. Just curious are you directly associated with the greenshot project or did you discover this too?
I am responsible for that part of Greenshot, so yes directly associated.
We have no secrets, this is where the "phoning home" happens:
https://github.com/greenshot/greenshot/blob/650b2710b48c45488e67cf544b17976fc29b7453/Greenshot/Helpers/SourceForgeHelper.cs
As I said before, if you don't like it, turn it of in the settings.
For us it's a way of making sure that our users have the most recent Greenshot, but still we get many Bug reports for older versions...
Best wishes,
Robin

Just to make our statement on malware etc clear:
http://getgreenshot.org/2013/11/19/promised-no-bundled-installers-no-toolbars-no-unfair-advertisements/
What can we do to make it more clear that we are checking for updates? Add a setting to the installer?
Btw... we are moving away from SF, as they cost us more time than help us, and the hosting is not coping with the amount of users.
Our ticketing system is here: https://greenshot.atlassian.net
You can report bugs there and request features.
