#178 "make prefix=${INSTALL_PREFIX} install" does not work

Guan Xin

"make prefix=${INSTALL_PREFIX} install" is partially corrupted.

"make prefix=${INSTALL_PREFIX} install-data" installs CONFIGURE_PREFIX (i.e. The path specified by configure --prefix=${CONFIGURE_PREFIX}).
However, "make prefix=${INSTALL_PREFIX} install-exec" works as expected.

What causes you to believe that these make targets should work as described? The GraphicsMagick Makefile uses Automake -local targets (e.g. install-data-local) and it seems (from reading the Makefile) that the approach you are using will skip these -local targets. There are no extra -local targets for install-exec so it works as expected.

perhaps 'make install-data install-data-local' would capture all of the 'data' files but testing would be required to be sure.

The most reliable way is to use 'make DESTDIR=/foo ' where /foo is some temporary directory, and then move/copy files from there to where you want them to live.

The syntax that the user is attempting to use is not a documented installation procedure and is not expected to work.
