Some of the pieces are in place to provide standardized
double-buffering, but these pieces need to be pulled
together:
- in-memory image creation
- creation of graphics contexts pointing to in-memory
images
- investigate any Win32 features that might help

The image and graphics-context classes now support
double-buffering operations for traditional GDI/User32. But
on Vista, the window manager is compositing screen elements
and so the traditional double-buffering techniques are
redundant. Need to think about how to abstract d/b so that
the platform differences are hidden from application code.
