whenever a pathname contains strange characters, such as in (output form hexdump from a terminal window):
:Jornada Synchronized Files$ ls -ld Wie* |hexdump -c
0000000 - r w x r w x r w x 1 1 7
0000010 0 4 w h e e l 1 0 1 7 0
0000020 6 a v r 2 0 0 2 W i
0000030 e r 201 s t e i c h e i n e
0000040 n T e m p o m a t n a c h .
0000050 h t m \n d r w x r w x r w x
0000060 2 1 7 0 4 w h e e l
0000070 2 0 4 8 2 3 j u i 2 0 0

0000090 e i n e n T e m p o m a t n
00000a0 a c h _ f i l e s \n
00000aa

The "strange" char ('201') would be a german-Umlaut-'u', 'ü'.

This is under OS Version: Mac OS X 10.6.4 (10F569) , X86.

First of all, apologies for this late reply. I have been busy.

Unfortunately, I am unable to reproduce the behaviour that you describe. I created folders and files with special characters, including an umlaut. Scanning these with the latest Version of GrandPerspective (1.3.3) as well as an older version (1.0) both succeeded. See the attached screenshot.

I am on Mac OS X 10.5.8. That's different from yours, which could explain it although it would surprise me.

Until I'm able to reproduce the problem I won't be able to fix it. So I would like to receive further information about this, from you or others. Please include details of your OS, version of GrandPerspective, files/folders that cause problems, etc
