However, with RH7.3, the python2 installation comes with RH7.3 (which is python 2.2) has the beta GNOME2 bindings tied into python, instead of GNOME 1 bindings. The GNOME 1 bindings are tied to python 1.5.2. Unfortunately, the GNOME 2 bindings are not compatible with GNOME 1, and since gramps is still a GNOME 1 application, it will fail. What I did on my machine is downloaded the source for python 2.1 and compiled it, then compiled gnome-python for python 2.1. I then compiled and installed ZODB for python 2.1. I then changed the line in the gramps shell script from '#! /usr/bin/python' to "#! /usr/bin/python2.1' The transition to GNOME 2 is not going to be pretty for this reason.
