When dealing with GEDCOM import, I have found that different programs do things different ways. In particular, adoptions seem to be a problem. Some programs do not support a family where a child is the natural child of one parent and the adopted child of another. PAF (Personal Ancestral File) is a good example of this. Other programs support these relationships, but cause problems on GEDCOM export. Family Tree Maker is a good example of this (it marks the relationship to both parents as adopted in the GEDCOM file unless you tell it to export a GEDCOM for Family Tree Maker, in which case it uses custom tags instead of the standard tags to indicate parent/child relationships). So, as a general question - What other programs do you use, and can they support an "Adopted" relationship to one parent of a family and "Natural" to the other? If you can, please send me a sample GEDCOM file exported by the tools. Create a database with only 3 entries - a father, mother, and child. Mark the child as a natural child of the father and an adopted child of the mother. This will help me to make sure I can import information properly from a wide range of tools. It will also help me generate GEDCOM output compatible with the other programs that you use. Thanks Don -- Don Allingham dal...@us...
