Hi Tim I use Gramps and upload to GenesReunited. The problem wit GR is that there are only certain things you can do with the website. You cannot upload multiple images, produce websites and calendars, gain statistical data etc. If you want to use GenesReunited and GRAMPS (or any major genealogical program), use GRAMPS as the primary store of all data. Always export from GRAMPS a GEDCOM that can be uploaded to GenesReunited, Ancestry and a host of other sites. Then when you next make changes, make these in GRAMPS, the export again and import to GenesReunited. If you have added photos previously on GenesReunited, when the GEDCOM has been re-uploaded to GenesReunited, you will normally find the photo still there. GEDCOMs from GRAMPS do not hold images, (they may hold links to images but this does not integrate with GR). When re-importing to GenesReunited it matches the people in your GEDCOM to those already in your GR Database and updates the individuals. I prefer to upload a gedcom without details of living relatives to online genealogy websites. This doubly protects the privacy of those living relatives. In order to do this, I have to edit the gedcom that has already removed living data and add back in just my name at the correct point, this enables the GenesReunited engine to put everyone into order. Please use GRAMPS as primary repository and GenesReunited, as a secondary store. You will still then keep your tree visible to potential relatives, and be able to do much more with the data you hold Adrian >I export using GEDCOM so I cn share information with others who don't >use GRAMPS and so I can upload to Genes Reunited. >Will have another look at the user guide but had trouble finding what I >was looking for in there. |
