Ok, I'll try that. What is the filename and extension of the dump backup mentioned below? What is included? _____ From: gra...@li... Subject: Re: [Gramps-users] Automatic backup? 2008/4/13, Rich Gomes <Ric...@co...>: Is there anyway to have Gramps automatically run a backup\export whenever you close the program? Or to include it in a cronjob? GRAMPS takes a dump backup on close which is binary database tables. The old xml backup on close was deemed to slow for larger family trees. If you want an automatic backup with cronjob, read the man page: man gramps You can do eg: gramps -O name_fam_tree -o backup.gramps Perhaps add a timestamp in the backup name, and copy to a save place after this line. With 'gramps -l' you see a list of all family trees. Use -i if you do not want to touch the original database (takes still longer). Use gpkg if you want the media files too, but that can take a lot longer to generate. It would be great if you make a wiki page with this info and share the cron job. We recieve this question from time to time, and things changed with version 3.0.0 Benny Thanks, Rich ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by the 2008 JavaOne(SM) Conference Don't miss this year's exciting event.
