You win the award of best question! Now, about translation, some of it is just the GNOME translation. So should you use fr.po for your english sheep version, the GNOME buttons like print, ... would nevertheless be in french. So you should probably use country variant= s. First, get gramps from svn: http://developers.gramps-project.org/tiki-index.php?page=3DBriefIntroductio= nToSVN (2.2 version!!) In the gramps2/po dir you find all the language files. gramps.pot is the ba= se english language. First you should make a script saying that the TRANSLATION is the same as t= he english, so eg change #: ../src/AddMedia.py:109 msgid "Select media object" msgstr "" into #: ../src/AddMedia.py:109 msgid "Select media object" msgstr "Select media object" Now, you must adapt the english translation, so the msgstr variable: msgstr "Select media object" --> msgstr "Select sheep object" Next, you must correct errors. That is, some instances of person will be as variables, eg msgid "%(event_type)s: happened on %(date)s" indicates a variable with name event_type and date. This may not be translated or GRAMPS will cr= ash with a variable not found. Call the resulting file eg en_AU.po or en_US.po You should do some lookup on where these files must be installed to be found by gramps. You will need to create a binary gramps.mo file from your en_US.po, and install it in /usr/share/locale/en_US/LC_MESSAGES/ Now, calling up GRAMPS with language en_US will give you the sheep version, where en_GB will still be the original text version Read http://developers.gramps-project.org/tiki-index.php?page=3DSetLanguageRepor= ts for this.
