Hello Benny,=0A=0AI'm currently moving over to Gramps from something called= 'Family Historian'. It's a Windows application that I run with wine on Deb= ian GNU/Linux. Another Family Historian user wrote a utility called Gedcom = Census (google for it) which works with the gedcom files that Family Histor= ian uses (FH does not use a database, it only reads/writes gedcom files) to= provide formed input for census data.=0A=0AIt presents a form broadly simi= lar to a census page where the data from the census can be entered. The uti= lity lets you put in the census year, place, address etc, then an entry for= each person which includes their name, age, occupation, place of birth. Th= e utility allows you to select people and places that are present in the ge= dcom file.=0A=0AWhen the census data is written back to the gedcom file, it= creates a source for the census entry, then for each person, a census even= t (containing the census location and person's age as an attribute), birth = event (if one does not already exist) and an occupation event.=0A=0AThis ap= proach makes entering the large amount of data present on the census a much= quicker process than having to create all these separate events by hand. T= he same approach could be extended to other types of information such as bi= rth, marriage, death certificates and equivalent church data such as baptis= ms and burials.=0A=0AI think the problem would come in trying to generalise= things so that they would work with different types of documents in differ= ent countries. For example an English census page is different to a French = one, no doubt.=0A=0AGary=0A=0A----- Original Message ----=0AFrom: "benny.ma= le...@ug..." <ben...@ug...>=0ATo: Alex Roitman <shura@gram= ps-project.org>=0ACc: ben...@ug...; Gramps developers <gramps-d= ev...@li...>=0ASent: Tuesday, 12 December, 2006 8:34:56 AM= =0ASubject: Re: [Gramps-devel] FormedInput=0A=0AQuoting Alex Roitman <shura= @gramps-project.org>:=0A=0A> On Tue, 2006-12-05 at 23:48 +0100, benny.malen= gi...@ug... wrote:=0A>> I have starting ordening my thoughts about input = via forms.=0A>> As I have little time for ICR (and outside the timezone), t= he text is on the=0A>> wiki: http://developers.gramps-project.org/tiki-inde= x.php?page=3DFormedInput=0A>>=0A>> Before fleshing out this idea, do you pe= ople see anything in this =0A>> idea?
