Greetings All: I have a weird situation in my family, and I do not know how to make it work in Gramps? I have tried just about everything that I can think of... My mother had three children inside of marriage and three children outside of marriage. Thiis is where the weirdness begins... 1) CK Bedard and Mother -- married & Divorced a) LS Bedard 2) DG Creasy and mother -- married & Divorced ** no children 3) CK Bedard and mother -- no marriage b) EG Creasy 4) HW Scheese and Mother --no marriage c) JL Scheese 5) HH Tillie -- no marriage d) KA Creasy 6) LD Healey and Mother --Married & Divorced e) RG Healey f) SD Healey In relationships of 1 and 3, there are two children. Brother and sister from same parents, but the reports and RelationshipView do not show that they are natural siblings... Is there anyway to make this display and report correctly? -- Sincerely yours, Rob G. Healey |

I think that you would create 5 families (one for each , but make just one for #1 & 3 combined), with the same mother in all 5. In the combined #1&3 family, just make sure you add the marriage and divorce dates as events. If the people are the same, then the other should be known as brother. Question remains if for family 3 there was a period they lived together, or if it was a result of an affair. If they lived together, then the first child will have been present in the third family too, and should be added to that family. You would hence do what Tom suggest: One family with a marriage, a divorce and after the divorce a cohabitation (or likewise named) event. The dates would make it clear when what child was born. If it was an affair, there are no real events for family 3, and it's sole existence will be to indicate the birth father. The child itself will have lived in a family however, and you should add it there, even if this is a family with only the mother. So, in my approach, family is linked to the actual living situation of a nucleus of people. Anyway, even in your approach, they should be given as brothers in the relationship calculator, and in relationship view, they should appear in the family you have added them (as you did not add them both to a single family, you will not see them as siblings grouped I presume) Benny 2011/11/16 Tom Weichmann <to...@we...> > I think that you would create 5 families (one for each , but make just one > for #1 & 3 combined), with the same mother in all 5.
