Can I run two instances of Gramps at the same time (memory permitting!)? I've been sent a gedcom which has info on my husbands family. I think it will be easier to see what I have, and type the new info into my current database myself, so I'd like to have both open at once and look at them both at once. TIA Dianne |

Sure, should be fine, as long as you are working on different databases. The only issue (I think) would be that the last version of Gramps to close will be the version that saves out the config settings. For example, if you have settings like columns for views, gramplet details, and other options, the last version of Gramps will overwrite the preferences of the other. -Doug > TIA > Dianne > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Nokia and AT&T present the 2010 Calling All Innovators-North America contest > Create new apps & games for the Nokia N8 for consumers in U.S. and Canada > $10 million total in prizes - $4M cash, 500 devices, nearly $6M in marketing > Develop with Nokia Qt SDK, Web Runtime, or Java and Publish to Ovi Store > http://p.sf.net/sfu/nokia-dev2dev > _______________________________________________ > Gramps-users mailing list > Gra...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gramps-users > |

If using different databases, yes. I maintain several family trees and each has a distinct GRAMPSHOME, e.g. #!/bin/sh export LC_TIME=en_US export GRAMPSHOME=$HOME/Private/Families/Kensen cd $GRAMPSHOME /usr/bin/gramps -O Kensen ${1+"$@"} or #!/bin/sh export LC_TIME=nl_NL export GRAMPSHOME=$HOME/Private/Families/Vromans cd $GRAMPSHOME exec /usr/bin/gramps -O Vromans ${1+"$@"} This is Linux, I assume Windows and Mac can do the same trick. -- Johan |
