I was trying to install Wine and got a message that libwine depends on..... Now I'm trying to update gramps to 1.06 and I get the message below. Looks like the inability to build Wine libraries is stopping everything I'm trying to do. I looked this up on several forums (forii?) and got several different answers. Is there a reasonable solution anybody knows about? Thanks, Jim root@libranet:/home/jim# apt-get install gramps Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these: The following packages have unmet dependencies: libwine: Depends: libxv1 but it is not going to be installed E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution). |

Jim, Did you try: $ apt-get -f install That should probably clean up the problems you are encountering. Jim, This is actually not a gramps question, but a Debian package management question. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or > specify a solution). It says that you have libwine package installed. It depends on another=20 package, libxv1, which is not installed. You may try installing libxv1 or uninstalling libwine. These would be two solutions to try, and it's=20 your decision which one you want. Each option might lead to further dependencies involved. Removing libwine will make any package depending on libwine (if any) unhappy. Installing libxv1 may pull in further dependencies, if libxv1 depends on any package that you don't have installed yet. To remove libwine, run # apt-get remove libwine To install libxv1, run # apt-get install libxv1 You may also try the suggested # apt-get -f install which should automatically resolve the situation, most likely adding libxv1. Until the issue is resolved, apt-get will complain with the message=20 above any time you run it, no matter whether you're installing gramps=20 or gedit or any other package. ...and if you do not know what libwine is you are most likely NOT using it. Wine is a package that lets you run (some) windows programs on Linux. It had absolutely nothing to do with GRAMPS.
