Now that I have finished V1 of the Descend] report, I was wondering if I should also update the Ancestor report. And this will be updating the report. Not a new report from scratch... I am thinking of adding the following: 1) the possibility of a different spouse (mom) display. I have seen this in other reports where mom also displays the marriage information 2) Personal Notes field 3) compress personal display formats Should I start adding these? Should I also add these to the current Descendant report? Any other ideas? thanks. Craig A. Ancestor report should ideally look the same, also in respect with the options. Obviously the logic is normally much more simple, although one can break one's head how one could represent that a person is present in two families as child (and what if in both by non-birth relation ??). But that are corner issues, the important thing is a good looking report that is ok in 95% of the cases. So to go back to your questions, if those are options in Descend] then yes, it would be good to have them also in Ancestor report. About replacing current report with yours. That would be considered and decided by the community here when release of 3.1.x alpha/beta comes up . The name should be pronouncable though ;-), but I think the choice would be to replace the current report, so the name should not be an issue then. The reasons that old reports are removed is to lessen the maintenance burden. > Any other ideas? > Apparently not. I would really appreciate somebody going over Ancestor report and bringing it current again. One minor thing, the color idea I brought forward still stands. As in the words of Shuttleword, beauty is a feature. From your work with Descend] I think you agree with that (did not see your last iterations though, I have too many kids to have spare time around Xmass). Benny > > thanks. > > Craig A. This is a feature that I would like to add for V1.1 of my report. But any ideas on how it should work? The Ancestor report may be colored like the fan chart? As for the descendant report, I was thinking of having a starting/ending color and have the colors fade from one to the other (top to bottom) of the report. But my wife already sais that is a bad idea.... Craig A. Date: Mon, 5 Jan 2009 21:57:32 +0100 From: ben...@gm... To: and...@ho... You could define some zones in your chart (first child family, second child family, some modulus calculus to limit to the number of colors you have defined ), and then make a list with colors you like, one for each zone. All hard coded. I would not add options for this, it could be changed to be a style setting in later iterations (each zone having a specific color style). Benny 2009/1/7 Craig J.
