Andrew, The developer managing the translations is Jerome. Best is that you use the bug tracker to add updated po files, and contact him via the devel list if you would like your changes checked and added to the repository.\ Benny 2009/12/11 Andrew I Baznikin <di...@sc...>: > On Thu, 10 Dec 2009 16:52:22 +0700 > Andrew I Baznikin <di...@sc...> wrote: > >> Hello! >> >> I'm willing to update Russian translation file and Russian relationship calculator (actually I begin - http://www.gramps-project.org/bugs/view.php?id=1683). >> >> 1. Andrew, The last translator (Yevgeny) has updated ru.po on 2009-04-08 (branch). I also commited update on trunk ! http://gramps.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/gramps?view=rev&revision=12460 So you will not lose any improvements/updates and maybe you can start to work on trunk ... You can ask to Konstantin and Yevgeny (see ru.po header) if they are working on ru.po ? Note, could be annoying to lose some updates presents on branch. One solution could be to work on translations into trunk when this version become the next stable branch, but it needs more work on a short period and we cannot check translations issues during trunk developpement ! Maybe if 3.1.4 is planned; to update Russian translation on branch could be useful (also rel_ru.py). If you planned to provide a complete translation for the next major release, you need to be aware that translations strings on trunk are like the code : not yet on strings freeze process. They could change every days until next major release ! Jérôme Benny Malengier a écrit : > Andrew, > > The developer managing the translations is Jerome. Andrew, > This translation based on gramps.pot rev13744. Maybe rev13744 is closer to 3.1.4 than last trunk revisions ! Should I commit your file ? Merge them with last gramps.pot files (branch and trunk) ? > I'd like to be informed when code > changes will be freezed so I can update it. On previous mail, I have seen that it could be around 2010-02-21 ? > Also any info about backporting of translations are welcome Seems to have around 12% (maybe 13/14% with tips) modified or new strings on trunk. Some strings presents on branch are now deprecated on trunk. So, some backported strings might be marked "fuzzy" on branch. Nevertheless, you could try backport by merging your last ru.po with gramps template (gramps.pot) available on branch, see http://gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Translating_GRAMPS#Updating_your_translation But this could be improved ! If you load branch and trunk files (ru.po) as a translation dictionnary, then you will have a translation help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Translation_memory Use the rule "no difference" (or something like that) into the Translation Memory feature present on most Translation Editors, then check the new "fuzzy" strings. After, and just for fun ... You can sort entries into your ru_backported.po and ru.po (trunk), make a diff and check what has been modified, deprecated, added. Or combine several messages then unify duplicate translations for having a big consistent translation ! Like into Launchpad or big projects (GNOME, KDE), wiki, php, HTML XML documents. http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Translating_GRAMPS#GNU_.60gettext.27_utilities Jérôme --- En date de : Jeu 11.2.10, Andrew I Baznikin <di...@sc...> a écrit : > De: Andrew I Baznikin <di...@sc...> > Objet: Re: [Gramps-devel] Russian translation > À: "Jérôme" <rom...@ya...> > Cc: gra...@li... > Date: Jeudi 11 Février 2010, 11h06 > On Fri, 11 Dec 2009 14:50:43 +0700 > Andrew I Baznikin <di...@sc...> > wrote: > > 1. If your translations is very old (many untranslated or fuzzy strings), strings will be ignored on compilation (mo gettext file) So, english strings will be used. Same thing on localized date and relationships handlers. You can provide additionnal code but only main definition or class names (same as DateHandler.py, DateParser.py, Relationships.py) will be used. So, without this code on your localized version, english "entry|display|way" will be used. The priority is to do his best and to try to provide a properly code for be able to be re-used. If translation file contains a big mistake, we will be warned on compilation (ru.po to ru.mo). Localized handlers are python modules, but devels have provided some useful tools for checking most possible errors. * GUI and command line on Dates : http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Date_Handler#How_to_test_a_date_handler_for_your_locale * command line tests on relationships calculators http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Relationship_Calculator > Also I'm going to make rel_ru work with current release (and join changes to trunk) So you can try to run test on rel_ru.py : cd {place_gramps} export PYTHONPATH={place_gramps}/gramps/ python gramps/plugins/rel/rel_ru.py where {place_gramps} is the gramps path. Something like that has been fixed on rel_fr.py (branch) http://www.gramps-project.org/bugs/view.php?id=3114 I let this bug-report open because I did not commit change (rel_fr) on trunk yet ... I was waiting for python 3.0 !!! http://docs.python.org/3.1/whatsnew/3.0.html#text-vs-data-instead-of-unicode-vs-8-bit But as 3.2 does not need it anymore, I should also commit change on current trunk. So try to use u'blablabla' for your translation strings, maybe this will avoid bug on kinship report ? I still find strange that user (under Windows) get a crash on kinship report but not on quick report, status bar, Relationships calculator ! I thought it was because kinship.py was not UTF-8 or a Windows OS issue, but unable to provide a testcase. :( Please, if you find an other solution, you can share it ! :) Jérôme Andrew I Baznikin a écrit : > On Fri, 11 Dec 2009 16:58:23 +0100 > Jérôme <rom...@ya...> wrote: > >>> mostly with %s %d mistmatches, hehe >> I suppose most was also "fuzzy" before your changes ? > > Yeah, all of them > >>> If there are some other major tasks with higher priority >> There was never "real" plan or roadmap on translations ... >> we often just need to be motivated ! >> >> If your translations is very old (many untranslated or fuzzy strings), >> strings will be ignored on compilation (mo gettext file) >> So, english strings will be used. > > I understand these basics :) > >> Same thing on localized date and relationships handlers. >> You can provide additionnal code but only main definition or class names >> (same as DateHandler.py, DateParser.py, Relationships.py) will be used. >> So, without this code on your localized version, english >> "entry|display|way" will be used. > > Dates works fine (in prev release, if I'll notice smth wrong I'll fix it) > RelCal almost updated to 3.x requirements. As far as I understand capitalize is deprecated and became obsolete soon. It treats our shiny Unicode strings as 8-bit. Andrew, > translators contacts and so on - could I? What name have I assign and where put a link? You do not planned to add commercial urls or to generate a spamming list, and you create something which will be useful for the gramps-projet, so I suppose there is no problem, create an account and just follow some basics: http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Help:Contents For helping translators, there is a wiki portal for translators : http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Portal:Translators Feel free to modify/improve content. Note, some robots are looking at Gramps's pages. So for privacy reason, I avoid mailing with the name. > I want to create wiki page about Russian translation with glossary (how to translate terms like Home Person, Notes and View) You can also do that on ru.po header as comments (see other translations files) Otherwise, you can generate some translated wiki pages : http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=GRAMPS_Glossary http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Events_in_GRAMPS http://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Category:GRAMPS_terminology and to improve existing one !
